JHSC Training in Ontario: Step-by-Step Certification Process

If your Ontario workplace has 20 or more employees, you need a Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC). At least one worker and someone from management must complete JHSC training to stay compliant with provincial law.

What the Law Requires

Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act is clear about JHSC training requirements:

Part 1 Training:

  • You must complete it within 30 days after you add it to your account
  • 3-day course covering health and safety laws
  • Teaches committee roles and basic hazard recognition

Part 2 Training:

  • You must complete it within 12 months after finishing Part 1
  • Focuses on the JHSC’s role for dealing with six different workplace hazards
  • Builds practical safety skills

Refresher Training:

  • Required before the 3 year expiration date
  • Updates members on new regulations and best practices
